Bukit Panjang Station

We are now 115 days to the opening of the Downtown Line 2. We review of the progress of the stations over the 3rd quarter of this year. Our final updates for this blog will be made prior to the opening of the line in December.

All the major works under the civil contract 912 have completed, with minor M&E and reinstatement works being facilitated as of now. This project was initially delayed in the early phases of construction due to the shallow presence of the weathered Bukit Timah Granite. The project team managed to make up loss time over the later part of the project and successfully completed the station on track.

A third entrance at Bukit Panjang Road is currently being constructed by Zublin under C9057. The works involves the open cut excavation of the new entrance, construction of linkway tunnels between the station and the entrance as well as A&A at the interface of the station boundary. Independent from the main contract, the additional works here only started around the middle of last year. Numerous road diversions will be staged around the intersection of Bt Panjang Road and UBTR, in particular the slip road.

The entrance has been slated for completion only by the end of 2016. The new Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub will open the following year, in 2017.

Bukit Panjang Circus

A temporary roundabout beneath the new Bukit Panjang flyover was implemented this morning at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road, CCK road, Woodlands Road and Bukit Panjang Road. The roundabout which concaves along the central flyover columns, sparks resemblance to the design of Newton Circus. Traffic marshals are currently deployed to aid directory for motorists while the traffic signal timing is being adjusted. The temporary diversion is envisaged to last for 3 months.

Bukit Panjang - Flyover Opening

The Bukit Panjang Flyover is finally completed and will be operational from tomorrow. The new 2-lane flyover will be provide seamless transition between Woodlands Road and Upper Bukit Timah Road, bypassing the existing cross intersection. A community stroll was organized for residents in the vicinity on the new flyover earlier this morning.

Downtown Line 2

As the Downtown Line 2 progresses closer to its completion, the public will begin to notice considerable amount of changes to the site landscape on the surface, with the introduction of aesthetics fittings and mechanical/electrical installations to the superstructures. A short consolidated update today tracks the progress of the DTL2 over the first few weeks of 2015, prior to the next quarterly-update which me and WK hope to commence right after CNY.

Bukit Panjang Surfaces

In this update we view the superstructures at Bukit Panjang upfront. Backfilling works along the C&C tunnel to GBD is completed and reinstatement of Woodlands Road is progressing in phases southwards. The north front of the flyover's structure is mostly completed and mechanical works have started. A&A works to the LRT are underway as well. As part of the future Bukit Panjang ITH, a permanent canal deck is being constructed to seamlessly integrate the MRT, LRT and Bus interchange. The northbound station entrance has also been covered over with a steel roof.

Bukit Panjang - Flyover

The new flyover above the Bukit Panjang station has taken much shape over the last quarter. The north side is mostly completed whilst columns have been casted on the south side. Spanning across the intersection junction, post tensioning works creates a cantilever for half of the peak span on the north side.

Majority of the photos in this update are contributed by 081828 from Skyscrapercity - whose contributions toward urban infrastructure are much appreciated. He will be a secondary contributor to occasionally aid in the updates of the Downtown and Thomson Line.

Site Visit to Bukit Panjang

The land transport authority held a site visit to Bukit Panjang station earlier this morning to announce a first quarter opening date for the Downtown Line 2 in 2016.

We conclude our 3rd Quarter updates for Stage 2 with Bukit Panjang station. The ventilation shaft structure is complete, while entrance A can be seen forming on the southbound road. Entrance B and the cooling tower is still in its substructure.

The flyover is also beginning to take shape as precast segments are being hoisted and fitted on the north columns. This flyover will be a 2 lane dual carriageway. The southbound lane of Upper Bukit Timah Road has also been diverted slightly towards the west to make way for the superstructure construction of entrance A.

For the month of May, we will be scheduling an update for each station along Stage 2 everyday. Starting with Contract 912 for the construction of Bukit Panjang station and the associated C&C tunnels north and south of the station.

Stage 2 update January 2014

A month has passed since we entered into 2014 and this provides a good chance to look back at the progress over the stage 2 stations thus far. On the whole, the stations are progressing swiftly towards completion in 2016. It was reported in December that "Several stations have achieved basic structural completion for electrical and mechanical installation works to begin and this will be progressively achieved at all 12 stations by mid-2014". It is notable that most station structures are taking shape decently, with several showing signs of reaching the final levels where the entrances and exits pop up.

December update

With Downtown Line 1 (DTL1) now fully up and operational, the focus will shift towards completion and commissioning of Downtown Line 2 (DTL2) in 2016 and Downtown Line 3 (DTL3) in 2017. Work has been continuing through the festive season with track laying, civil defense door installation and concrete pouring going on at various sites.

Bukit Panjang update

Bukit Panjang is slowly but steadily progressing towards completion after the minor delays due to the granite in the area. This made it harder to excavate the soil as blasting and drilling was required to get to formation level at the bottom of the station. Since that has been completed, works have been progressing well on the station structure located at the end of Upper Bukit Timah Road. We may be seeing back-filling soon, next year.
