September Tunnel Progress

September 15
Earlier this morning, the night shift team at Nishimatsu led S687 to breakthrough the d-wall at Kaki Bukit station, completing the BP bound tunnel between UBI and KKB. This is the third out of 4 TBMs to breakthrough under C929A.

September 20

TBM has launched at Tampines East C&C for the BP drive to Tampines Central station.

September 25

S758 has completed excavation of the Expo bound tunnel from Jalan Besar to Bencoolen station. The TBM will begin to dismantle within the tunnel.

TBM Theia completes Expo bound tunnel

Today, TBM Theia of C930 completed the Expo bound tunnel from Ubi to MacPherson station. The completed tunnel joins a string of breakthroughs along Downtown Line stage 3 that signal the line inching towards completion day. To date, the longest completed section could see one walking from the Bendemeer station all the way to Bedok Reservoir.

Mattar S737 breakthrough

In addition to the breakthrough at Chinatown, the Downtown Line 3 has also seen another breakthrough at Mattar station. Under Contract 931, Hyundai Engineering bored one bound of the two tunnels from MacPherson station to Mattar station and brokethrough into the reception shaft early last month.

Progress at the site prior to New Year

Scope of tunnel works at 931 involve the BP bound to be driven from MPS. Upon completion, the TBM (S737) will turn around at MTR and bore back the EP bound tunnel to MPS. Hyundai uses a special construction method for their tunnelling works at MPS. A conveyor system is used to carry out muck in replacement of the conventional gantry crane. A similar system is expected to be adopted when 737 does a return drive from Mattar.

MacPherson

MacPherson station is an interchange station with the Circle Line and has been awarded as C931 to Hyundai E&C. Take a look at this short clip using the tilt-shift videography to give a miniature-like effect to the construction site.
