Downtown Line Construction: DTL - A snapshot in May 2026

An overview of the Downtown Line extension project sites as of May 2026.
Top (L - R) : DT36 - Xilin, DE01 - Intermediate station

It's hard to believe, as it only feels like yesterday that the line opened, but the Downtown Line (DTL) has been around for 13 years this December. 13 years on and the line is being extended at both ends, adding a further 6.2km to the 40km-long line. As one extension project reaches the finish line, another begins the arduous process. We check in at both projects to see how progress is going - details after the jump.

Downtown Line 3 Extension
This extension consists of 2 stations, of which one is a shared interchange terminus with the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) at Sungei Bedok, and adds a further 2.2km to the line's total length. In some ways, it feels as though this project is limping towards completion rather than finishing strongly. DT36 - Xilin (Contract T313)
In a nutshell: The yellow is beginning to shine through as architectural works at the station begin to shape up. With early closures and late openings due for the rest of the line come July, works are getting to the finishing line. There is still quite a way to go though, with no station signage seen at any of the 3 exits. Works at Exits 2 and 3, along the side nearer to Changi South Avenue 3, appear to be in a slightly better degree of completion than compared to that of Exit 1 on the other side of the road. Ancillary structures, however, appear to still be - shockingly - undergoing casting works.

Downtown Line 2 Extension
With works due to commence along the project from Q2, most of the contract sites are still in the advance work phases. Demolition works are ongoing within Sungei Kadut to free up land needed for the project, while utility diversion works are ongoing near Senja ahead of the contract's later commencement date.

DE2/NS6 - Sungei Kadut (Contract 990 / 991)
In a nutshell: Site clearing works were in progress, with the majority of the area where the station is to be sited now freed up. Further south from the station site, two buildings were in the process of being demolished, with works on the tunnel launch shaft commencing thereafter.

DE1 - Intermediate station (Contract 992)
In a nutshell: All the old industrial buildings on the site of the future station have since been demolished. Several other buildings across the road and bordering Woodlands Road have also been cleared under the same contract for advanced works - contract 9177. It is likely that the site will be handed over to the contractor for the station soon.

Contract 993 - Tunnels between Bukit Panjang & Intermediate station
In a nutshell: Advanced works for utility diversions are ongoing at the site, with the contractor only expected to commence works in Q3 of the year. Meanwhile, advanced works are expected to continue up to 2028.
