DTL - A snapshot in February 2025

An overview of the various Downtown Line projects on-going.
Top (L - R): DT36 - Xilin, DT4 - Hume
Bottom (L - R): DE1 Intermediate station, DE2/NS6 - Sungei Kadut

This month, we have a much more comprehensive snapshot update for the Downtown Line (DTL) covering the phase 3 extension, phase 2 extension and the in-fill station at Hume before it opens. With lots to cover in this update, let's get to it - you'll find pictures and information after the jump.

Downtown Line 3 Extension
Works to close the gap between Expo and Bayshore were gaining traction with progress being made at Xilin and Sungei Bedok stations on the extension to the Downtown Line. Most notably, escalators had now been installed at several exits at Xilin while Sungei Bedok had the public transport symbol caplet installed at more exits.

DT36 - Xilin
In a nutshell: Two of the station exits have had escalators installed and roofing works for the covered linkway were underway. The third exit, across the road from the 2 with escalators installed, was still working on the concrete structures at street level. This exit will be the last to achieve basic structural completion, although the station (without the exits) would likely have achieved this milestone already.

Do check out updates on the East Coast Line (ECL) Construction Blog for TEL5 Snapshots, where updates for this station will be posted.

Downtown Line in-fill station
Hume station will be the MRT network's first underground in-fill station. Thus far, all in-fill stations have been above-ground/elevated stations. Hume station began as a shell structure between Hillview and Beauty World stations used for launching tunnel boring machines on either end towards the neighbouring stations. Subsequently, it was determined to commence with the full build-out of the station by completing the necessary components.

DT4 - Hume
In a nutshell: The station was being readied for opening day come 28 February. Through the month, signage was installed and emergency responses by the staff with external agencies were conducted. By the middle of the month, station signage is up at the exit building as well as at the station platform level. These include the station name sign, exit number signage, first/last train timing signs, directional signage, platform screen door signage and some location maps.

Downtown Line 2 Extension
Work to get the project off the ground had begun with the release of contracts 990 & 991 for bidding. Early works might have begun to clear the existing sites from the industrial sheds that occupy the sites of the future stations.

DE1 - Gali Batu / Sungei Kadut Avenue / Yew Tee East
In a nutshell: The contract for the construction of the station has yet to be tendered. Nonetheless, we paid a visit to the location of the future intermediate station to view the location before advanced works begin. Currently the site of the future station is occupied by vacated sprawling low-rise industrial sheds, warehouses and offices. Some works may have begun within the buildings to prepare them for demolition works commencing.

DE2/NS6 - Sungei Kadut
In a nutshell: The contract for the station's construction has just been released for tender today. As such, a visit to the location of the future interchange allows us to see the existing site conditions prior to any work commencing. Surrounded by several vacated and even fewer occupied industrial plots, the area is currently a mix of older low-rise factories and several newer higher-rise mixed use warehouses. Several of the buildings on the eastern side of the existing North-South Line (NSL) viaduct will need to be demolished.

DTL2e tunnel boring machine docking shaft along Woodlands Road
In a nutshell: To connect the extension tunnels with the existing DTL tunnels underneath Woodlands Road, a docking shaft will be constructed near the HDB flats at Senja Green. The shaft, located just north of the existing pedestrian overhead bridge, will be used to receive tunnel boring machines (TBMs) making their way south from the future DE1 Intermediate station site. Currently, the site is bustling with works for future HDB blocks taking place on one side and a quiet residential precinct occupying the other side of the busy thoroughfare.
