Xilin station. Contract T313. The section that delayed both the Downtown Line 3 extension and the Thomson-East Coast Line's phase 5 by a year. How are things looking at this overdue section? With approximately a year to go to opening day, we find out what progress has been made with this little laggard as the year's end bears down on us.
Exit 1
While the structure of Exit 1 has been completed, installation of the various electrical components was on-going. Escalators and parts of the ceiling could be seen in place. Fixtures, such as the railings along staircases, were also observed to have been installed. This exit will feature an integrated cooling tower above the access to the station, hence its structure features more cast in-situ concrete than other exits at the station. This means that no external cladding nor exterior glass panels were installed yet as a result of the slower construction owing to the need to construct structural elements with concrete, the bare concrete wall at the back of the exit structure visible evidence of this.

Exit 2
Compared to Exit 1, this exit in particular is further along in construction. It sports a simpler design, with a concrete wall along the back of the exit and the remaining parts formed of metal frames and roofing, allowing for more pre-fabrication and quicker installation than if cast in-situ concrete had been used. Glass panels and escalators were installed, while interior cladding was progressively being installed. We previously covered on the design elements of Xilin station, which would feature yellow heavily. These elements can now be seen in actuality, as the station progresses with architectural works.

Exit 3
Similar to Exit 2, this exit features heavy use of pre-fabricated components which are assembled into the final structure on site, minimising the use of concrete walls. Like at Exit 2, the works here are at a more advanced stage than those of Exit 1, with glass panels, interior cladding and roofing works at various stages of completion.

There has been marked progress at the contract site, with more segments of the station exits' roof completed. The roadway along Changi South Avenue 3 also appears to be closer to reinstatement compared to 5 months prior. With a year to go to opening day, its about high time that things start appearing more completed. There are still other components to be installed, such as the LED arrival display boards, signage, lighting and other information boxes. We shall see how works progress as we head into the year's end.
